Applications should include relevant supporting documents (CV, degree transcripts and certificates, evidence of English language competency if ncessary) and a completed TARGET application form.
Applicants from outside the UK should check their eligibility with the project’s lead supervisor. Not all of our projects are accepting international applicants.
Following shortlisting, applicants will be invited to an online video interview with a panel, with offers made to successful candidates in Spring.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity
The TARGET team are committed to improving the diversity and inclusivity of our research community, and removing as many barriers to participation as we can. Through our recruitment process and beyond, we commit to:
- Train our supervisors and trainers in best practice in DEI principles, including unconscious bias, and to use diverse decision making panels where possible.
- Have a clear and unambiguous application process in which candidates are assessed transparently and fairly.
- Reach out to poorly represented groups when we build projects and advertise opportunities.
- Offer a preferred interview scheme for certain under-represented groups of Home-award-eligible applicants, meeting the essential requirements of at least a 2:1 Bachelors degree (or overseas equivalent) in a relevant subject area, with an appropriate fit to the project.
- Provide mentoring and guidance on the application process.
- Collect DEI data throughout the application process, and take action to address issues.
- In accordance with the UKRI’s Terms and Conditions for Training Grants, TARGET ensures that provision is in place for all its doctoral students to access paid medical leave, maternity, paternity, adoption and parental leave, and have the opportunity to study part-time if they wish.
- Provide accessible training opportunities that recognise diverse means of learning and participating.
- Listen and act upon feedback from our researchers and supervisors throughout their time with TARGET.
If you require any amendments to our application process for accessibility requirements, then please contact us. Possible amendments may include:
- TARGET application documents in alternative software formats, or with modified text size and colour.
- Alternative interview arrangements, including date, time and format.
- Extra time in interviews.
